What Is Motion Detection Video Clips?
Motion Detection Video Clips is a powerful paid add-on security feature for Swiftlane access control hardware. Using the built-in cameras on Swiftreader X and Swiftvision Compact / Pro / Max devices, the system automatically records 15-second video clips whenever motion is detected in front of the device.
Clips are securely stored in the cloud with 30-day retention and are instantly accessible from the Swiftlane dashboard's Activity Feed, appearing under a dedicated Access Type: Motion Detection.
If any access events (such as an unlock or denied entry) occur during a recording, the same clip is also linked to those events, giving you a seamless, unified timeline of activity and footage.
How to Enable This Feature
Motion Detection Video Clips is a paid feature that must be enabled on your account. To get started:
Contact the Swiftlane Support Team to request activation.
An invoice will be generated for the add-on.
Once payment is received, the feature will be enabled on your account.
Every account also includes a free daily preview of 15 clips so you can evaluate the feature before purchasing. After the 15-clip daily preview limit is reached, a promotional pop-up will prompt you to upgrade to the full paid feature.

How It Works
Free Daily Preview
Every Swiftlane account includes a daily preview of the Motion Detection feature at no additional cost:
Admins can view up to 15 motion detection clips per day for free.
After the 15-clip daily preview limit is reached, a promotional pop-up will prompt you to upgrade to the full paid feature for unlimited clip access.
Motion Detection Video Clips is a paid add-on feature. Every Swiftlane account includes a free daily preview of up to 15 motion detection clips. Once the daily preview limit is reached, any additional clips recorded that day will appear as locked in the Activity Feed.
When an admin clicks on a locked clip, they are prompted to upgrade to the full Motion Detection Video Clips feature. Selecting the upgrade option will navigate the admin through the purchase flow. Once the upgrade request is submitted, it is automatically sent to the Swiftlane accounting and internal team for processing. After the invoice has been cleared, the full feature will be activated on the account, granting access to up to 300 motion detection clips per day.

Daily Clip Limit
By default, motion detection on Swiftreader X and Swiftvision devices triggers video recording 24/7, until the daily limit of 300 clips per device is reached. For admins who want more control over when recording is active, Swiftlane allows you to map a custom schedule (see the Configuring a Recording Schedule section below).
Discovering Motion Detection Clips
A dedicated View Motion Detection Clips button has been added to the Activity Feed page. Clicking this button filters the feed to show only Motion Detection events, making it easy to browse all recorded clips in one place.
Use Cases
After-Hours Intrusion Monitoring
Property managers can configure active recording hours to cover nights and weekends. Any motion detected at entry points outside of business hours is automatically captured, providing visual evidence of unauthorized activity without the need for a separate CCTV system.
Tailgating and Piggybacking Detection
When someone follows an authorized person through a door, the motion detection clip captures the full scene. Admins can review footage linked to specific access events to identify tailgating incidents and take corrective action.
Package Theft and Lobby Surveillance
For multifamily properties, lobbies and package rooms are high-traffic, high-risk areas. Motion-triggered clips provide a rolling visual log of everyone who approaches the entry point, helping to resolve disputes around missing deliveries or property damage.
Incident Investigation and Forensic Review
When a security incident is reported, admins can filter the Activity Feed by Motion Detection events and quickly scrub through time-stamped clips. Because clips are also cross-linked with access events, investigators get both who badged in and what the camera saw in a single view.
Unmanned Property Oversight
For properties without on-site security staff, motion detection clips serve as a virtual guard, continuously capturing and storing visual records that can be reviewed remotely from any browser, at any time.
Configuring a Recording Schedule
By default, motion detection recording runs 24/7 until the daily clip limit is reached. However, you can map a custom schedule so that recording occurs only during specific time windows. This helps you focus clip storage on the hours that matter most to your property.
Why Use a Schedule?
High-traffic office lobby: Without a schedule, 300 clips may be consumed by midday with no coverage for evening hours. With a schedule, clips are reserved for after-hours when security risk is highest.
Residential building entrance: Without a schedule, clips fill up with routine daytime foot traffic. With a schedule, recording is focused on overnight hours when suspicious activity is more likely.
Warehouse loading dock: Without a schedule, continuous recording captures uneventful idle periods. With a schedule, recording is aligned to shift change windows and off-hours.
Step 1: Create a Schedule
Navigate to Schedules > Access Control Schedule in your Swiftlane dashboard.
Create a new schedule defining the specific days and time windows during which you want motion detection recording to be active.
Click Save.
Step 2: Map the Schedule to Motion Detection
Navigate to Settings > Motion Alerts tab.
In the schedule dropdown, select the schedule you created in Step 1.
Click Save.
Once saved, motion detection video capture will only occur during the time windows defined in your schedule, instead of around the clock.
